2.10) Fossils
How Fossils are Formed:
1) The organism dies and is covered in sediment. The soft part of the organism decays, leaving hard sections such as skeleton, shell etc 2) More layers of sediment covers the shell, forming sedimentary rock around the fossil. 3) After millions of years, movement of the Earth's crust pushes the fossil upwards. 4) Weathering and Erosion may eventually wear away the sedimentary rock to expose the fossil. |
2) The Law of Superposition
Sedimentary layers are deposited in a time sequence, with the oldest on the bottom and the youngest on the top. |
