1.5) Seeing Inside an Atom
Presentation Rules!
1) Only images 2) One image on each slide 3) Image must fill the entire slide 4) No writing on slide |
Task: Looking at how Technology has developed our Understanding of the Atom and Matter
Your group will create a 1 min presentation on ONE current technology that has revolutionised current science. Your presentation must be divided into four components. 1) What the scientists were looking for? (1 or 2 people) 2) Description their experiment. (1 or 2 people) 3) Description of the new technological device they used. (1 or 2 people) 4) A presentation that has only one image on each slide with no writing at all. Max 10 slides (entire group) Each member of your group is responsible for one component of the task. This means that they will need to present the information to the class and can only use ONE cue card only. Each student will be assessed on: a) their UNDERSTANDING of the component b) their ability to EXPLAIN the component to the class in a SIMPLE and CLEAR manner c) their correct use of the presentation as a visual cue for the class. You will receive either a HD (highly developed), D (developed) or DG (developing). Your homework will be to reflect on the feedback and write ways that you can improve in each component even if you received a HD. |
The Quantum Microscope and seeing inside an Atom
Technological Device = The Quantum Microscope The Experiment = To see inside an atom The Quantum Microscope sounds like an impossible device developed by some brilliant but possibly insane scientist. In May 2013, physicists were able to develop a quantum microscope that directly observed the electron orbitals of a hydrogen atom, a revolutionary step for proving directly the Atomic Theory. This quantum microscope was invented by Aneta Stodolna |
The Large Hadron Collider and the discovery of the Higgs Particle
Technology = The Large Hadron Collider The Experiment = To see a Higgs Particle The Large Hadron Collider is an amazing technological device that has improved our understanding of the structure and properties of matter in so many ways. You will look at the discovery of the Higgs particle. |
