When Plates Meet
The tectonic plates move at about the rate at which fingernails grow. For this movement to continue, new crust must be made and old crust destroyed. All this occurs at the plate boundaries and creates the many different landscape types in our world. Some are:
1) Rift Valleys:
2) Ocean Trenches, Folded Mountains and Volcanoes:
3) Island Chains:
4) Really Big Mountains:
5) Fault Lines
Task: Working in pairs, create a PowerPoint presentation that contains the following information on each type of landscape given:
a) Diagram that demonstrates the typical cause
b) Description that outlines what is occurring in the diagram
c) A couple of examples with images
A significant amount of information can be found from SF3 section 9.2) At the Edges pg 289 – 292 in SF3 as well as from relevant internet sources. Do not use the explanation for the formation of island chains.
Finally present your powerpoint to the Class on Friday
