What can happen to ENERGY?
A fireworks display is one of the most spectacular energy transformations; you can not only see it but hear, feel and smell it. When fireworks are ignited, the energy stored in the substances inside them is quickly transformed into movement (kinetic energy), light energy, sound energy and thermal energy (more commonly called heat)

Energy cannot be DESTROYED or CREATED, it can only be TRANSFORMED. When the Universe was created, all the energy was created too and still exists today! Find out more about what can happen to energy by reading your textbook and watching the videos below.

3.3) Design your own Machine!!
Task 5) Problem-solving and Wind Turbines
Design a simple wind turbine capable of lifting a cup off the floor up to bench height. Wind will be simulated by a hairdyer. The winning team will be the one producing a machine that lifts the most weight. Use the website "Wind Turbines" to find out the components of a wind turbine. Remember Creativity is a Virtue!!!! Click on the weblink "Pouring Milk" to see a machine that was built to pour a glass of milk to inspire ideas for your wind turbine. Equipment Supplied: 1) plastic and foam drinking cups 2) sticky tape, blu-tac, glue, glue gun 3) straws 4) paddle pop sticks 5) A3 and A4 paper and cardboard 6) pencils 7) skewers 8) string 9) split pins and tacks 10) retort stands 11) cardboard rolls Time Frame: 1) Thursday - Research and Design 2) Monday - Construct 3) Wednesday - Mrs Pizzimenti will test each windmill at the beginning of the lesson using a hair dryer. |
